Hi to all,

I have the need for Sun Ray Software for Solaris/SPARC.

So I called a Oracle goldpartner in GER, and they told me, that it is
not possible for them to sell EOL-products.

Could anybody give me an information, how I could get the software legally ?

I suspect there's no way to get it legally.
A shame - a fantastic product which Oracle completely wasted (not that
Sun was any good at selling them either).

Is this it?

I don't know if it would work, but, assuming you're currently paying
support, you could request physical media.

Older releases of Oracle Solaris installation media not available through the above links can be requested as a download or as physical media by logging a request through My Oracle Support. (Additional details are documented in 1071023.1)

Directions for submitting a Physical Media Request in My Oracle Support:

Go to My Oracle Support and Sign In
Click on the Contact Us link in the upper right corner of the page.
In the new window that appears fill in the Problem Summary, select your support identifier, and click Next in top right corner.
Select Software & OS Media Requests from the Problem Type drop down.
Answer the additional information requested (e.g. software download or physical media, contact information, etc)
For the "Product Line" field, select "Solaris Products" from the list.
Verify the contact information and click on the "Submit" button.
NOTE: Requests for releases prior to Oracle Solaris 8 can not be fulfilled

(I could only get the pulldown menu with a Microsoft web browser)
Software & OS Media Requests > Exception Physical Software & OS Media Requests

Does the client you are doing the work for have a support contract ?

Aha, so the option of a single server support contract to get access is
not available to you.

No it is not. And I would not pay a ~ 2000€ sup. contract just only to
get this pice of software in a worth of about 120 $ .

Anyhow - oracle itself would not sell the software.......

Meanwhile I managed to use the free edelivery.oracle

Funny: I can get the 5.4 version for sparc/intel-Solaris and mac, the
3.1 which I need is not available for solaris on sparc&intel .......
very strange.......

What is wrong with the newer version?

As for as I know the sunrayhardware has changes two times, so there are
sunrays with US3e CPU and ARM(tel) and something else.
Therefore You need different firmware (because of "ultrathinclient" the
firmware is also delivered via network from the server).

So a SR170 is not compatible with the 5.x software as far as I know (max
should be 3.x)- and so told by a oracle-gold-partner.

does somebody know something different and has expierience with it ?

But the firmware is a different bit of software anyway; Oracle made
the Sun Ray software available but I think a support contract was
needed for the firmware.

I though that all the client should work even with the recent
Sun Ray software. But that some features are indeed missing from
the Sun Ray firmware for the earlier Sun Rays.

Anyhow.......

So meanwhile I have here now 2 SunRays: SR 170 and SR 3plus (latest one)
I have the Sunraysoftware downloaded from edelivery.oracle.com
(accessable with a non-payed oracle account like for the discussions)

I've downloaded everything related to the SunRay, but the firmware - Sun
Ray OPERATING software - is not with it.

My question: Has somebody this software - I would buy it.

That would probably be in breach of their license :-)

I've not touched Sunray for a long long time.
I may have something laying around, can you let me know more detail of
what you are after ? Firmware name ? Filename even ?

Have you tried the internet archive ?

not in the EU judged by EU Court - Oracle lost.
It is allow to sell Software(incl license) as used to someone else.
