if you are in runlevel 3 you can use "sax2" to configure your keyboard.
type >sax2
(works only in runlevel 3).

Hi,

I have a SuSe 8.1 server, it has been quietly sitting in my loft being a
file server to the family's windows boxes

Today I swapped the NIC from an old 10BaseT to a 100BaseT

I cant see the server from the network, as I need to configure it - it boots
into runlevel 3 normally, so as I know little about Linux, proceeded to
change the runlevel to 5 (init 5" so as to get into KDE, and then Yast to
configure the card

As soon as KDE loaded, the keyboard lights go off, and the keyboard doesn't
work!?

It is a PS/2 Keyboard

any hints would be greatly appreciated!

.... use the text-mode version of yast to get the network up
and check the keyboard settings

I have the network back up again, totally forgot about the text Yast :S

Thanks mjt!

I looked in Sax2, and it reports it is a windows 105 key keyboard, this is
correct, I will try another type to see what happens!
