Hey Guys,

Any ideas on how the .OST file on a client computer can be converted into a
..PST? Exchange refuses to boot up and there are tonnes of contacts and
emails that are sitting in the OST file. To complicate matters, the user had
deleted his domain user account and created a new one. So Outlook 2007 wants
to create a new profile. So I'm hoping to import the converted PST and have
him use it until exchange is recovered somehow....

Thanks for your input

Google OST2PST.

But if Outlook can still get to the OST file your best option would probably
be to have users create a PST and copy everything to it.

Hi Ed,

I'm not quite clear on what you mean by "get to the OST file"? Here's the
situation: The user, upon not being able to log on to the domain, deleted
the user account in the AD and recreated another one with the same name,
thinking the new account will inherit all the properties of the old one!

Only then, did he realize all the associated profile issues and the fact
that Exchange is not running. So now when he launches Outlook with the new
user account, it wants to create a new profile and connect to Exchange,
which ends up failing. So right now he has the .OST file sitting in his old
profile, with all his information inside, but not able to access it.

How would you suggest I'd be best able to make the contents of the OST file
availabe to him, given the above situation.

Thanks again,

You might be able to recover the information but your mileage will
definitely vary. Has your deleted mailbox recovery period expired? If not,
you should be able to reconnect the old mailbox to a new account.

A lot of users nowadays face the necessity to convert all information
from Microsoft Exchange (.ost files) into files of the Microsoft Outlook
mail client (.pst files).

You can choose among the following free and paid .ost to .pst
conversion software:
1. Download ost2pst.exe file from the location:

Once it opens you need to select the .ost file to convert to .pst file
format.
Once this finished you are ready to import .pst file in outlook.

2. You can try Stellar Phoenix OST Recovery Software
() to convert unusable Exchange Server
OST files to usable PST files. The software is helpful in Addressing all
the situations like server crash, user account or mailbox deletion which
makes your locally stored OST file inconvertible in order to make the
OST data usable with Outlook.

This only works on ANSI format.

For other tools, see

Hi Tom,

If you want to convert .OST files to .PST you need to buy any third party software which can safely convert your files. Though I am a active user of Stellar Phoenix I recommend it to you.

Cheers.. :)

Hey,
I also have had the exchange server crashed and cannot deal with the huge OST files. And at last I tried an utility called Advanced Exchange Recovery. Tonnes of contacts and
emails that are sitting in the OST file is converted into PST file. And I import them in another mail account.
And recently I found that this utility is so strong at recover corrupted PST and OST files and mistakenly deleted items. To find it, Google "AEXR".

Hope not too late to help.

Jim
