so this is exactly what i have:
media center edition
version 2002
with wmp9

when i try to install mp10 it says:
This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version
of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web

and when i try in install mp11 it says:

to install wmp11, your computer must be running winxp media center edition

So go to the Add/Remove Programs control panel and rollback/uninstall the
Windows Media 11 Format Runtime. After that you should be good to go.

The answer is in your post (at the end), you need MCE 2005 or later. Here
are the requirements for WMP 11 .

BTW, you don't have MCE 2002, if you have applied SP3, you actually have the
2004 version -- SP3 (or 3) automatically updates MCE to the 2004 version.
The 2002 version showing under system properties is the underlying XP
version, not the specific MC version.

You might want to go into the MCE interface and look under Settings,
General, About to find the correct version of MCE. You may find that you
have 2005, if that is the case, then you may just need to apply Rollup2 to
get the WMP 11 to load.

If that is the case, here is the info on Rollup2
